A DELEGATION from "madeinussr" who travelled from the North East of England, held a short service to pay their respects to the cruiser Varyag last Saturday.

John Scott MSP and South Carrick Councillor Alec Oattes joined up with fifty adults and children from the former Soviet Union for the dedication ceremony at the Varyag memorial in Lendalfoot.
The memorial honours the Varyag, which was a Russian cruiser that sank off the coast of Lendalfoot in 1920.
The purpose of the dedication was to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the defeat of fascism in the Second World War, and Mr Scott was invited to attend as a member of the Scottish Parliament's Cross-Party Group on Russia.
John said: "It was a pleasure to meet up with all the people present at the dedication ceremony and I hope that this is another step in strengthening the bonds between Scotland and Russia, and between Ayrshire and Russia in particular."
