A TEENAGER tragically died in the early hours of Monday morning after falling from the roof of Girvan Swimming Pool.

The 18-year-old, Aiden Millar from Wishaw plunged about 30ft after climbing onto the roof around midnight on Sunday.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene, but the male was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of the medical services.

A spokeswoman for South Ayrshire Council, which runs the swimming pool, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the young man who died.

"Our Health and Safety officers are aware of the incident and the pool is closed while investigations are carried out.

Police believe there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the youth's death and that it was a tragic accident.
